What is Nanada Music /
What does Nanada Music stand for?
Nanada Music B.V. is best described as a music publisher, who maintains personal contact with her composers, lyricists and other relationships at home and abroad.
In the past, a music publisher did exactly what the name still indicates:
Manufacture and sell the (sheet) music, lyrics and sometimes complete scores to "users". So, publish music.
Musicians, orchestras, choirs, etc. who wanted to have music published by our company put to sheet music,
so that they could simply play the compositions by means of the sheet music. Nowadays, the production and sale of (physical) sheet music is only a very small part of the work performed by a music publisher.
So what do we do then?
We have an extensive worldwide network of publishers, who represent us abroad. We have placed our catalogs around the world with various publishers, all of whom are well-informed about the copyright rules applicable locally, who have their contacts with local advertising agencies, production companies, record labels, artists and local copyright organizations, such as we have in our own territory.
This enables us to worldwide:
- administer (or have administered) the copyrights (sub)published with us.
- promote our copyrights or to "pitch" when it comes to placing them under commercials, films and games, or to convince other artists to include them in their repertoire.
- negotiating favourable deals for the use of our copyrights in synchs and samples.
- have eyes and ears that monitor the use of our copyrights (is all use correctly paid for?)
We therefore strive to advise and assist our writers with regard to the registration of their works, the exploitation of their compositions and we check whether they are correctly paid for all exploitation.
Very often, composers are also the performing artists. In that case we also assist them in negotiating a favourable record deal if required.
In case our artists want to use songs not published by us, we’ll try and find out whom the rights are assigned to.
We negotiate a possible arranger's share in a protected copyright if the composer appreciates it, etc.
What are synchs?
Synchronization right in our industry is the first mechanical ‘merge’ of music and images.
Music is often specially made to support documentaries, enhance scenes in films and to draw attention to commercial ads.
Just as often, existing popular music is used for these productions, for which the user (through advertising agencies, production companies, etc.) must ask permission from the copyright owners (the composers and their publishers, who often get the mandate to negotiate a reasonable fee for their use).
If an original recording of a song, for example "DINGE DONG" from TEACH IN, is used, the client must also ask permission from the "master" owner, in practice usually the record label where this recording was initially released.
Nanada Music B.V. is in the nice position to be closely associated with record label Red Bullet Productions This enables us to negotiate a reasonable fee with potential users where our copyright has been released by the Red Bullet label. Experience shows that this type of application can be processed very quickly. This is to the advantage of the users, the artist and the composers (“one stop shop”).
